[Art] Variations on Flow and Jazz
- Focusing on Jeehee Paik’s “Flow” exhibition
Experience the ever-changing and free essence of "Flow" through the exquisite works of Jeehee Paik.
As the sound of "All Blues" by Miles Davis fills your ears, let the rhythm guide you to the exhibition where you'll discover the captivating philosophy of System Dynamics. Immerse yourself in the beauty of "Flow". Flow exists in the behavior of water, the babbling stream, or the powerful waterfall. To contain the flow, we need stock. Stock represents what is being accumulated or depleted, such as the sea or a fish holder.
System Dynamics is a study that focuses on the interaction between flow and stock, and how they influence each other. In System Dynamics, we are interested in uncovering the secrets of flow and stock. Flow is invisible because it is unstoppable, but it can be seen as stock. The stock has no power on its own, it's only what flows in and out that determines its existence. If we want to increase or decrease stock, we need to change the flow. Flow and stock circulate and this is the core of the System Dynamics Variation.

Through the masterful interplay of flow and stock, Paik's works come alive with the essence of jazz. Witness the gentle whisper of projection as they mix with the flow, guiding us on a journey of self-discovery and change. Does the projection reflect the moon in the stream? Could it be the face of a pretty artist reflected in the river? Follow the clues provided by the artist, and unveil the story of transformation as flow and stock circulate and feedback on each other.
As jazz asks if the flow is choked,
Paik's works answer, "No, we just contain the flow."
Literature, too, goes with the flow, praising and mourning the flowing wind, stream, and time that govern all these flows. Art also resembles the flow of literature. Paik's works, like the essence of music and fine art, flow with an energy that cannot be captured on canvas or written down.

Feel the afterimage of stock in Paik's works, a father's cry for his daughter on the bookshelf of time in the latter part of Interstellar, a movie depicting humans struggling in a maze created by space and time. Witness the passing of time and the heartbreak that comes with it, as Paik explores the nature of love, loss, and the power of memories. Let the soothing sound of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's "They Can't Take That Away From Me" transport you to a place where love is an anthem of resolute lovers that no one can touch.
Jeehee Paik's "Flow" exhibition was a masterful tribute to the beauty of change, the interplay of flow and stock, and the rhythm of life itself. Experience the magic of flow through the eyes of an artist who understands the power of music, literature, and art. Join us on a journey of self-discovery and transformation, where every moment is a reminder of the beauty of flow.
